Up the road from the Abbey lies Melrose Market Square - a triangle, with Mercat Cross. Opposite is the Three Hills Roman Heritage Centre, featuring the huge Romano-native complex at Newstead village (one mile). Aerial photos, panels, amazing gems and artefacts, Bill McLaren audioguide, Mr Spock video. Thursday p.m. guided site walk (plus tea) past Abbey to viaduct and amphitheatre.
